Acetyl keto- β-Boswellic acid (AKBA) is one of the main bioactive compound present in Boswellia gum resin and is the most potent inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme responsible for inflammation. Despite the diverse bioactivity, low concentration and low bioavailability of AKBA still presents a formidable challenge to realizing its full potential as a health supplement. The marketed standard boswellia extracts generally contain 1 to 3% of AKBA, besides being poorly bioavailable, requiring high & multiple doses per day. Also the harsh solvents used in the extraction of boswellic acids makes it unsafe for long term human consumption.
